Get Involved Get involved? Who, me?
Yes YOU... and here’s why.
Being a volunteer provides you, at a minimum, great networking opportunities and, depending upon your commitment level, it can offer you exposure and experience in running a Florida Not For Profit organization (not to mention valuable PDUs towards your re-certification). Where else can you obtain that level of experience to add to your resume?
But I don’t have a lot of time…. A number of volunteer opportunities exist within the chapter. Time commitments range anywhere from an hour or two up to a monthly time commitment and involves everything from helping at the registration table at a monthly meeting to serving on the board of directors. No matter what your availability, we have opportunities for you.
Can I volunteer for something that is of interest and what would I have to do if I volunteer?
Of course you can! We encourage you to do so. Below you will find examples of special volunteer committees and an overview for each of them. Please review them to see if they fit your interests. For more information on additional opportunities, please see the Volunteer page.
Corporate Outreach Program
The Corporate Outreach Program is the method by which the chapter integrates into our work communities. Chapter members serve as ambassadors and as subject matter experts in regards to the chapter, providing guidance in regards to membership, events, and best practices within the profession. Additionally they assist the individual corporations in regards to access to the appropriate resources within the chapter for sponsorship opportunities. For more information, please go to the Corporate Outreach page.
Academic Outreach Program
Similar in nature to the Corporate Outreach Program, the Academic Outreach Program is our avenue into the education community. While typically conducted at the college/ university level, this program extends into our primary and secondary education campuses too. Members serve as liaisons for those in the academic world. Activities include things such as meet and greet events speaking about the profession all the way up to mentor programs for our upcoming fellow PMs. To learn more about these opportunities, please see the Academic Outreach page.
Community Outreach Program The purpose of our Community Outreach program is to assist our various community volunteer organizations with their initiatives while at the same time introduce /reinforce exposure into these communities in regards to our chapter and our profession. A variety of causes (breast cancer, lymphoma, American cancer society, Hands on Tampa, etc) exist in our community and they are always looking for good volunteers to assist with their endeavors. If this is of interest to you, please see the Community Outreach page for more information.
Chapter Elections Committee Each year the sitting Past President serves as the Lead for the Elections committee and looks for members to assist with the elections. The committee consists of a small team of individuals whose volunteer time is needed for a duration of a couple of months and typically requires participation in once a week committee meetings. The role of this team is to reach out to the chapter members starting in the June/July timeframe to identify those folks who are interested in serving on the upcoming year’s Chapter Board of Directors. They work with the individuals to explain the roles and responsibilities of each of the board positions as well as the time commitment needed for those roles. From these discussions the candidates are selected and the election ballot is created. This committee determines, within the parameters of the Chapter ByLaws and Operations Manual, how the elections will be conducted & then conducts the election, tallies the ballots and communicates the results of the election. For more details, please access the Chapter Elections page. |
